Five things to do after installing Windows 10:

This is good experience to use something new but it is great experience make it better. Previously we learned how to install Windows 10 technical preview. Now, it is time to improve Windows experience after installing Windows 10.

We will start with normal post-installation processes:

1. Enter key and Activate Windows. Activation is necessary, go to PC settings > Enter Product key and then activate windows. If you will not activate Windows, it will show following messages:

• “Windows is not activated” error text is shown in Computer properties.
• Activation Key Watermark will appear on top of everything just like a screen sticker.
• Full screen notification Windows asking you to activate.

2. Link your Microsoft account/log in to your Microsoft account. After installing Windows 10 Go to PC settings > Users and accounts and connect to Microsoft account. This will sync all OneDrive data. This also helps to import earlier Windows settings from earlier Windows installation.

Example: if you had installed Windows 8 and logged in to your Microsoft account then it import desktop settings (including theme) and other settings.

3. Check for updates. The latest update gives you the compatible drivers for your hardware and gives security patches. By installing updates you will not need to install drivers manually. Don’t forget to check for updates after installing Windows 10.

5. Delete Windows.old folder. Go to C drive (Windows 10 installation drive) you will find a folder named as Windows.old. This folder contains files from your earlier windows version. If you have upgraded from older Windows version to Windows 10 then you will find this folder. If you have formatted disk drive before installation then you will not find this.

If you forgotten to back up any file before Windows 10 installation then it is a safe side. So before deleting this folder cross check if you need any of the previous files or not.

 Other things to do after installing Windows 10

Apart from these, after installing Windows 10 you can install your favourite browsers, media players and other professional tools. One more thing is that you will not get any office app pre-installed so consider downloading 3rd party office software.
